Not that I want a computer that runs, it makes it too hard to type.

Solar power would indeed obviate any need for deservation.
(Though it's useless for me, as I tend to write at night.)

Voice dictation software? My wife uses the program "Dragon Dictate".
It works quite well for her. It sounds truly bizarre to anyone else in
the room as she speaks punctuation and editing commands along
with the text.
