A Poem for Ray

I also read his Life and Times of Benjamin Franklin. I really do like
the guy's writing; no matter if he be historian, novelist, or both.

Baytown being owned by Exxon-Mobile is no joke. When growing up
here, most people, my dad included, worked for Exxon (called Humble
then, as you said), and even now it's a company town. As a civic
duty, Exxon still provides paid time off for any of its managers to
pitch in and help run the town. Back then most of the mayors, city
councilmen, school board members, water control board, etc. came
from the ranks of the Humble execs. Baytown has a ring of incorporated
land around the refinery, but the refinery land remains unincorporated
and pays no city taxes. Etc. But we have a damn fine library, and the
science labs in the high school were/are excellent.
