i understand the reasoning behind the sat. it gives an even playing field or is supposed to, when it comes to seeing if a pupil is capable of doing the work.
once they get to college.

the sad thing is the sats are invariably used to grade the students so the best colleges get the best scorers.

if the sats were done by an independent body and the only things the student got was a yes you passed or no you didn't certificate. and the colleges never got to see the results i'd say yes to them. they should also be free.

that said;
if by the end of high school, the school can't grade you on reading writing and math etc then the school has failed you and itself. the sats are i believe used for things other than college entry, mensa uses them as well i think, for prospective entrants.

so after writing this post and thinking about it. no i don't think i believe in sats. (an entrance exam based on a three or four hour test) i know they say it runs in conjunction with school work but you get bad sats and your college of choice becomes limited.
