So you are saying that the human race has no greater purpose than the cockroaches and the dandelions then?

Ultimately... yes.
If you accept the belief, we are also commissioned to look after and care for the planet, as well as one another, and the animals/birds/fish/insects which of course adds to our purpose. However, I believe the planet would do more than well without our meddling and recklessness.
It has also been written (bible) that our purpose is to commune with God.
But without our no. 1 purpose being to reproduce the other purposes would fall away as with the human race.
