Of course you didn’t hear your child’s scream;
It’s understandable that sipping tea and eating toast,
somehow dims the noise of daddy love and scratching nails--this line is definitely my favorite in the piece...double damn
How many cups, how many slices, did it take to drown
The noise of screams and wails, of kicking feet
against the lino-covered floor; how often
did you simply close your kitchen door?
Those lines are a strong indictment. I like how you shifted from the distant to the personal in the last stanza.
Mothers have officially been stomped on (check)
