I like the flow of it, reads like a dark, chilling song Smile

Is there any particular reason for distinguishing the italicized stanzas? I originally thought it was to emphasize the repetition, but you repeated other stanzas as well without the italics.

The only thing that noticeably didn't work for me was the "black cat and mouse" metaphor clashing with your "serpent" metaphor. Personally I'd pick one or the other to work with but not both.
