Not entirely true with the whole "Poetry is a poor man's profession" bit. True of the MAJORITY, sure. True of Billy Collins and Franz Wright? Doubt it.
Granted, these are adept poets who, with a combination of skill and luck, made it into the big time. Most of us will not be so fortunate

Speaking of Franz Wright, has anyone ever read his stuff? Kind of whiney, don't you think?
Oh, and to the mod who threw on that extra line to my "fantasy", I forgot to finish my story.
I would then open up my own factory that produces them. There. I'm a factory owner.
