I think its disgusting how they treat their kids, though many parents have been like that since time immemorial. Heck, the "dad who calls his son sissy/quitter for not being in a sports team " has become a tired cultural cliche.
They're so obsessed that they lose any perspective on what they're actually making their kids do, even though their kids "love it". How else do you explain those creepy child beauty pageants where five-year-olds are caked in thick makeup and where they strut and do sexy dances for an adult audience? *shudder*
Of course parents should be supportive of their kids' endeavors, but "being supportive" doesn't mean negligence and abuse.
