Well, writers write, and they write about what they know, so I don't particularly smell conspiracy here. I don't know how what's in his employment contract but you had a busiess, right? Presumably you had some employees? If one of them had written a book about something they had experienced while working for you I doubt you would have seen any of the money. So I don't think he'd be doing this for the paper's benefit.
