But how viable is it in our life-time? I computer only does what we make it do. If we make it walk , it will walk but it will not do so on its own. If we program it to do it on it's own as well as think we will be creating what's close enough to life. And that sounds impossible.

That's why I think AI will never be anywhere near human intelligence...

AI and human intelligence are two different things.

AI more about making computers self aware and able to function without so called input. it's about improving it's chances of staying alive so to speak.

It's about asking it a question with the minimum of parameters and asking it to solve something. IE; take the quickest route from a to b on a snooker table without making a left turn or hitting a ball. (even if it doesn't know what a left turn is?) it would presumably know how to google (lmao) to find out what a left turn was.

no matter how intelligent it could be it won't be able to manufacture a body for itself if it has no power. and even with power it can't plug a drill in or work a lathe. the film is not what realistic AI is about at present.

in the distant future we may i robot AI's but i doubt it will happen.

human intelligence i think is way way off in the future. even a few hundred years off. machine intelligence in reference to AI is i think almost upon us. though i have no source. (jmo)
