i don't think it will be too long ( a decade or two) before a computer becomes autonomous, thats when we'll need to take stock of it's real potential threat.

why should it be a threat?it couldn't do much worse than we are at the moment,i say,let it have a go

and what happens if it starts policing itself?
no pron, no illegal file sharing, staying within the law (it's law)
controlling everything from the banking system to charitable donations.

what if it decides that planet would be better with 3 or 4 billion people less?
