Intensive crit wasn’t always line by line. Tectak was the only one who stuck to that form in the middle years of the Pen. I don’t think line by line actually helps in workshopping. It often becomes an exercise in pedantry.
In the early years of the Pen, a distinction was made between the efforts that the critiquer was expected to put in, in each forum. That distinction has become blurred because such a practice could only be followed when there was enough of a deal flow and population of critics to justify such differentiation. You could still have Basic vs Intensive, but the Intensive vs Mild division doesn’t exist now, really.
And we have fewer people now, so take what you get. We had Lizzie, Knot, Richard, Tranquility Base, all join but none of them stayed for one reason or another, and TqB passed away. Now we have Matsun, but whether she becomes a permanent fixture remains to be seen.
