Thanks to both critics. I didn’t like the “silver sheep” bit. There was also a particular reference getting lost.
Hopefully fixed, or maybe not.

I think your editing impulse for "silver sheep" is strong, and I like the new version better. I think something like "with its sheep of stars" would be even stronger. Less apologetics for the metaphor. One of my poet friends recently has been encouraging the removal of padding/auxiliary words in figuration, to give the line more active energy. I find it a really useful piece of guidance.
