Childhood is afraid
of the night, the thin hands
of malevolent ghosts. Youth is unafraid
of the night, with its host
of silver sheep in the land
of the moon. the anaphoric "of" is a fantastic little provocation, well realized by the run of figuration. very compelling.
Mid life is afraid great turn, I'm with you
not of night, but the soon ah! oh!
coming dawn, upending
respite, its dreams of the past hmm... a little indulgent around here, perhaps - but the occasion does seem worthy of a grandiose gesture or two
where it hides from the future, not a friend. brilliant poetry
Old age is afraid of the night
once again, of the one
with no light,
with no end. resolution that simultaneously introduces a new source of tension <3
Okay I think the last couplet should read,
once again, of one with no light,
with no end.
Also think there could perhaps be a few more lines after "friend" and before the final couplet. That moment deserves extension, maybe. Juicy stuff.
