My 2 cents: rules arent the issue, never have been. In fact they could be stricter. I think people should be forced to post 3 critiques for every poem they post. It would not only drive down alot of rabble and fluff, it would create frothy threads, and it would do what poetry is designed to do: make people think. So many people write the same generic regurgitation and want praise. Thats not what this site was ever meant for, the difference between before and now is there were people who were here to call people out on their bullshit.
I joined this site because it required something of me, and everyone else in return, and there was no nonsense.
The AI invasion has deflated my general interest in poetry unfortunately. Last I was here you guys were dealing with a user/s who was spamming AI poems.
As far as statistics go, its easy for the human eye to incorrectly measure something, especially something broad like the interest and engagement in poetry forums. It would be interesting to see some cold hard stats on the matter, rather than speculation.
