The Robin Hood aspect is entering dangerous territory.  Making villains of big corporations - OK, they can defend themselves.  Wiping out the local money-lender, though... if he's legit, he's got losses to cover, that's why his rates are so high:  he owes money, too.  If he's not legit, he has a lot of vigorish to kick up the ladder.  And he expects protection  for it, which means not only will some of his losses be covered, but so will whoever caused them... with stitches at best.  (As presented, he seems legit but one-sided.  Personally, I sympathize with him more than with the gang, an idiosyncratic reaction.)
You make some good notes - and you aren't wrong - much of the story is about the duality of "right" and the moral gray areas.
