For me Bossa Nova is all about those delicious chords and the equally delicious chord structures. I learnt most of what I know about bossa nova music from Antonio Carlos Jobim probably the best Bossa Nova composer.
I once got a load of his songs from ultimateguitar and just treated them as chord structures and then I could play them how I wanted whilst learning about the technical aspects of the harmony and melody.
Getz and Gilberto do a couple of albums with Antonio Carlos Jobim and using some of his songs and if you just learnt those then that's all you really need to play Bossa Nova.
