Once they started giving them numbers instead of names it was all bound to go tits up.

Anyway... can't chat I've got to take 37 for a walk.

It's not the numbers, it's that there's no logic to the sequence:  with just *numbers* you could always tell 1.0 was going to be a bug farm but, by 3.1, all would be in order.  With Windows™ the good ones - 98, XP, 7, 10 - don't tell you who they are, or that 95, 8, 2000, and 11 are stinkers.  Calibers at least have *some* logic:  those beginning with 3, 4 and 7 are solid, but 2, 5, and 9 are questionable... that's just physics
