Excessive force
It started when he was eight
the snap, crackle and pop
not loud enough to drown
his fathers burnt toast,
he scraped most of it off
but this was the breakfast
he was told to eat.
Later came a deeper belief
trained how to react
on every street corner
a hand on caution
at every traffic stop,
always projected himself
on top.
This morning as he slams the door
on another mashed coffee pot,
he packs all the sharp fragments
into his shotgun cartridge,
waiting for someone, daring someone,
to pull his trigger.
