The pseuds sit smug-lipped in bespoke suits,
waiting for the evening's lottery results.
No gambling for such lofty sorts as these,
just the sure thing of a tithe upon the plebes.
The waitress who dreams of city lights
helps grifters fund their vain and artless blights.
The jobless soothing poverty's sorrow
toss their hopes into High Art's bordello.
A few pennies here, a few pennies there,
skimmed to causes deemed politically fair.
Causes the punters don't know and don't like,
chosen for them by those who took the right.
They fled galleries and theatres, discontent;
Now foot the bill for highborn curators’ rent.
