Saturday night TV
Yes the game show was great
but it was just a pre curser
to staying up late.
And that wasn't an easy task
Dad always had the swivel chair
me and mum feet up on the settee
my head on her thigh. Dog sat waiting
for something to drop.
Tea had been spread thick with butter and ham
on crusty baguettes, topped off with piccalilli sauce.
No desert because we had bags of boiled sweets,
bon-bons and mint imperial's.
It started with Basil Brush then DR Who
Bruce was in charge through the generation game
then laugh along with the two Ronnies
before being terrified by tales of the unexpected.
The news brought a welcome break
for bedtime drinks and a bit of supper.
I would move into mums vacated hot spot
and settle down to the trumpets
that signaled the start to Match of the day.
