I don’t use satellites,
unseen eyes to set my path.
I unfold a map like my father before me,
the true shape of the world.

Then there’s the truth
missing from the lines,
hidden between the creases.
He said borders pretend
to follow rivers and peaks,
but the mapmakers reshape them to lie.

Greenland enlarged.
Africa reduced.

Topology is control.
If you can be made
to deny what your eyes see
then they can spin
the world to suit them.

My father fell off the edge
of the world,
and I folded myself
into his absence.
