Well, for a novice, yes, but as a novice you would need to learn about how you must install Windows anyways. The only difference between installing the Linux that I have (Ubuntu) and installing a conventional Windows OS is that you might want to review some pointers on preparing partition. That's it. And that's just making Linux reside in the boot loader alongside Windows.

If you just want to dedicate the entire hard drive space Ubuntu, you can elect that in the setup. It's a piece of cake.

I can't speak from experience when installing other Linux OSs, but I would say that the Gnome/KDE GUI is as user-friendly as hell! On Ubuntu 9.10, they have that fading effect that you have on Windows 2000 and up.

The difference between running Windows and Linux is that Linux is more secure in that the default login created during installation/setup will not let you change or delete files around without root authorisation. If it was changed by you after giving the root password, then you would know for sure that you did it on purpose.

I can't speak for Windows 7 because I never ran it. But I like my current setup so far: a Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux 9.10.

EDIT: Well, I think we're getting off-topic here. I'll recommend an e-mail/"groupware" program that was a favourite for Linux users. Now it's also for Windows. The name of the program is Evolution. It's got an e-mail component, contacts, to-do lists, calendars... it's like an organiser. Supposedly, it outperforms Outlook, but I have never used Outlook before, so I wouldn't know. Try it and see.
