Sideline Sneer
#1
I was feeling annoyed and frustrated tonight, so instead of ruminating I decided to write a poem about it instead. So here we are.

Sideline Sneer

A hardwood floor,
adorned with eager souls,
aasketballs tucked under thin arms,
ahoes like boats beneath them.
They gaze upon the bleachers,
searching for smiling faces
among their protectors.

Nerves ripple through their bodies,
yearning to do what's right,
afraid of unknown mistakes—
excitement laced with fright.

As they step onto the court,
laying their hearts bare for all to see,
how dare we scold them from the stands
for missing that open three.

Our pedestal stands high
in our smug and hazy memories,
unclear through the lens of age.
As we have turned the page,
we have set the stage
for standards, our false selves

devoured.
