Azazel, by then convinced
by disagreements with his lord
did coxswain Charon’s boat back over
dawnless Styx to build instead
of ever-ruining Man’s hopes
fulfilling Heraclitus’ tag.
Goat-horned, he got to work and made
has-beens of coal and water power
irradiating thorium
in energetic quantum jumps
that kept great dynamos in spin
long after sun and wind had quit
nuclear miracle, death’s gift.
