                the creatures of canada
                the creatures of the great white north
                laugh at our winters
                laugh at us tiny critters of the mud
               
                critters consigned
                by indifferent fate
                to the soggy bottom of an ancient sea
                to the gulf coast of texas
               
                we are mice
                who think rats elephants
                and cool days cold
               
                and the dogs and cats
                huddled with us
                a sanctuary from demon climes
