And I don't need to bring anyone down with me, thanks though!
Reading the words of someone who believes they have a soul and then says they think
it's already lost is definitely depressing. Religious writings descibe all sorts of ways to
regain it. So I'd say it's not lost as yet. I'm not sure how you could come to this
conclusion, but I know better than to guess.

I was raised outside of religious belief, but I find the passion compelling and I admire
the ability to possess it. I've always been interested in religion, its great effects
on human society and particularly on singular individuals.
Having been raised in the U.S. South, most of my friends were religious,
or at least felt they had to say so. I truly respected the ones who were sincere,
and I also envied them. Not only for the passion, but for the confidence it gave them.

One of the big disadvantages of being religious, I would think, would be the ability to
believe that one had lost one's soul. My Catholic friends believed that even mortal sins
were forgivable if one was truly repentant. I guess if you're unable to be repentant,
then it might actually be lost. I'm not sure how someone goes about determining this
as you can never be certain what your future self might be capable of.

Of all the Christian gods, I do find Mother Mary the most compelling. And if I was able
to believe, she'd be the one I would pray to as I suspect she would be the most
understanding, the most forgiving.
