Have you ever read "Language and Linguistics" by John Lyons? He was a professor of linguistics at Cambridge University, and he wrote several books on psycholinguistics, semantics, language change, lexical subsystems and the like. He also created a constructed language called Bongo-Bongo. Are you familiar?
