Other than that, I like the epitaph style of the poem.

Thanks for catching that. Also, someone mentioned that everyone ends out like this, freed from the pursuit. What was the significance of the soldier's death then?

It's for sure the story of every soldier who fought in one of the big (or small) Revolutions in our history.  I'll actually add one other thing: maybe move "of freedom" to be the last line.
