Very nice observation.  Personally, I've found the trick to accomplishing an onerous task (weeding, for example) is to take off my watch; perhaps divesting themselves of all personal communication devices could serve the same purpose with younger men.  I say this having recently beat the threescore-and-ten, though not by much   .  The Flintstone-style shift-change whistle has much to recommend it.
