I was thinking
about the time you hid
that mangled pig's ear
under my pillow
to chew another day
how my hand found it at 4am
in a strange Godfatheresque nightmare
how I'd whipped it
out the window
and slapped you in the snout
before I was fully awake
and how it reappeared
two days later
a little more mangled
and stinking of rotted leaves
we had a good laugh about it
but I never really apologized
