Rolling Thunder came rolling my way
I said, yes indeed I’ll pay.
Its wheels rolled across my face
I didn’t seem to be any place.
Then the show began without restraint
a gypsy outlaw in white face paint
a sinuous violinist with serpent’s eyes
played along side him, her violin cried
as I watched him guide the soul of the band.
I didn't yet know he was a joker man.
Hyenas gathered outside the wall
and howled at his harmonica’s call
while the audience drowned in every word.
A crowd of yearning youth awaiting a third
coming of a messiah to a broken world,
bringing with him songs to unfurl
to save the misnomers of this dying empire
gathering us into his poet’s fire.
