don't believe it dan. most really modern cars aren't worth stealing. aren't worth tracking. these cars get stolen by joy riders.

the real car thieves steal to order and work in rings. often the car is broken up for high end spares. often the car is simply driven into a closed truck with a gps disruptor and taken abroad with a new set of papers.

as for fingerprint readers.they're not so hard to fool with a real thumb or finger. in fact they're pretty low tech.

lets say you buy a range rover thats been back end damaged.
you order a range rover from the ring, cut both cars in half and and join the two good ends together. a good profit can be made from chop and swapping.

many exec cars stay overnight in the garage for servicing. it's often the best place to steal the car from. as it has all the details of who owns it and the key or entry code.

many gangs just lift the immobilized car on to the back of a flat bed and cover it with a sand blanket and gps jammer. there are more real car thieves than people imagine.
