Better to try to understand the universals of human nature and society that evolved the traditional pack (and its divinatory meanings). If you want modern, sure, go cartoon. The deck was a game based on current (at the time) beliefs. Languages have changed and evolved and people call the hierophant the pope, I'm Catholic but can't say I follow the Catholic church even though I'm supposed to, I'm definitely not any denomination, have I created my own Christianity? I don't think adapting tarot is even bad for divination since they say you have to feel the deck.
The most significant change in your revised pack is very subtle: substituting "the lover" for The Lovers. Apparently modern "love" is divorced from caring or devotion, other than to self. Which is quite an astute observation, if intended. My wife says the lovers is more about temptation and not really love. The love would likely come from the empress card.
