In comedy and melodrama they
slide closed and open from each side to say
it’s just one scene, we’re not done, folks!
Our pratfalls, curtain calls and jokes
will be right back, no lack-- our play’s eternal.
In tragedy, biography, they rise
on situations, complications, cries
of anger and despair. We care
for lives tossed, lovers lost, we share
held breath, a little death, their fall is final.
