Three Tales of Two Geese
One goose, two geese;
two sheep, one fleece.
Canada, Canadian;
big brant, Scandinavian.
Fly in vees for victory,
die sans valedictory
songs of dying swans
for gosling-downy pawns.
Changing ohs with ease,
goose, when two, turn geese.
Geese mate, they say, for life,
a culture shared with vultures.
Which moves one to wonder
if a vulture widower
must wander celibate
and two mated geese
made one goose by fatality
flies on in individuality
or not.
Geese, Canadians,
stride with dignity,
honk with authority,
distract from slippery
evidence of residence.
