I think those poets shouldn't care about what they could be associated with and let the art speak for itself. Vanity poetry is what it is, and if what the poet is posting is different from the style of vanity poetry that's getting the likes, people will recognize it. It's not hard to differentiate the types.
Those who are not willing to check out the links to a poet's site, and a possibly good poet at that, is all the more reason why those poets should embrace the interface of social media sites like Twitter and Instagram and just have fun with it.
