I don't see why poetry wouldn't be taught in schools. There are different ways of learning, so there are different ways of teaching. But there's the whole emphasis on knowing things. I wouldn't say I know anything; I'm in a constant state of improvisation, which I affectionately refer to as buffoonery. Things are always changing, new information is always coming to light, things are evolving. If you do things wrong, really wrong, you'll know, because you won't be able to function. The standards of learning are good for that reason. That and broadening standards.
