Squall

I'm six foot under sterile snow,
immobilized by atrophy.
The winds are high and clouds are low

up there. At least I'll never know
that sort of suffering- at least
I'm six foot under sterile snow.

An avalanche of words I know
defends snow angels in the field 
when winds are high and clouds are low.

And I can't balk at lumps of coal
in place of eyes when I can't see
here six foot under sterile snow.

If only I could make them glow
and have them warm a place for me
when winds are high and clouds are low.

It's not just me. You ought to know
we all are digging out and hear
from six foot under sterile snow
that winds are high and clouds are low.
