Bought a book for a buck(brillo bbs)
with coins dug from my purse, (dunno bout dug... collected, cremated, exhumed/excavated/gouged/unearthed?)
musty bound leather (musky/dusky/crinkled/creased/handworn)
cloaking temperance verse; (like cloaking but maybe concealing/covering/sheathing/obscuring?)
engraved and fancy,
I was drawn to the cover,
smells of old books
oft my second choice lover;
found it packed full
lacking only one poem, (wot one???? tell me do!)
didn't open it wide
'til I got all the way home.
A book salesman's volume,
filled with choices and all,
not elaborate as my Tennyson,
older, more tall. (tall? enlongated/explained/extended/extensive/lofty/etc)
Did Lord Tennyson choose
his extravagant cover
from similar samples
of extra fine leather? (mefinks superior/surpassing exceptional/noteworthy/firstrate?)
An option of spines,
all embossed in a row?
Trim work, plain letters,
or gold leaf aglow?

A Victorian widow, (who dat mama?)
she just could not see
how ridding herself
of that old tool would be; (gee tool? dunno? psalmry/hymnal/guidebook/doctrine?)
her loss of companion,
pining part of him there: (part? not plural?)
she sewed twenty-two workings, (swishy sses and wooing wwwws)
into pages, so fair;
webs of filigree cotton (hmmm cotton? silk/fancy/frills/embellishments/ decals/crop circles/paper doilys/snowflakes/inkblot explosions?)
proved frugality's perk, (noice)
a sampler, unknown, (dunno unknown? maybe tributing/exhorting/exhibiting/illustrating/pictorial/patterned?)
of another great work;
how many those hankies
were pinned, used, and sewn?
Delicately crafted (crafted? perhaps embroidered/ displayed/exhibited/drawn/detailed/created)
distractions, her own.
