Australia: a poem
#1
I tried to make it a full pastiche but ran out of time....

Australia - a poem (with apologies to Ginsberg)

Australia, I gave you my all
and now I have nothing -
Australia, two dollars and forty seven cents
after paying the rent,
and that won't buy me a piccolo latte,
not in Sydney anyway.

The taxman spent it on the disabled,
on pregnant teens, knife wielding crims
who're only mentally ill because they're white.
They're moving to Katherine in droves,
complaining about immigrants.

Australia, when will you end your fake Queensland smiles?
When will you be catholic?
When will you rip up your Great Barrier Reef brochures and say,
'the best bits along the sea were built over with fibro shacks
before we learned to whinge about the Chinese'?

I'm sick of Dick Smith's demands, go smother him.
