There is no inconsistency in my argument. Why they are taking them down is waste. Why do i care about the waste? Because there is opportunity cost associated with the waste. It's not difficult to understand.
There is no opportunity cost to you for taking them down.  All of your arguments have been voided.  you have no opportunity cost objections to other obvious wastes (putting statues up for instance.

The why should be irrelevant other than that it makes others feel batter.

Why does it matter whether you judge those feelings /valid/ or not.
