Thank you! I'm sorry I just saw this now. I didn't mention this in my original introduction post, but I want to gear my poetry more towards spoken word poetry. Is that something some people do here? My boyfriend and I just went to one of our local slam poetry events last night, and it was one of the best nights I've had in a very long time; I want to be able to get up the courage to read some of my poetry there eventually, and I want to become a regular there. I actually cried from happiness when we got home, haha, I've just been neglecting anything artistic, really, for a long time. It's just an all around amazing place and environment with amazing seeming people.
That might be what you mean by "real person" and academic? For example, I'm obsessed with anything that Button Poetry puts out, but then I notice that in the books by those poets, the poems are constructed much differently than they are performed for their online videos.
Oh gosh, honestly, hearing that there are academics here intimidates me haha, but I'll try not to be; I think it's wonderful that you're/they're here and take the time to post and help out. That's pretty amazing, actually. I hope I'm still able to contribute something meaningful sometimes. I appreciate all the help and am definitely game. I really hope to take a poetry class in college if I can, even though I have more than enough English and Art electives already. I'm excited to be here! Thanks for the warm welcome!

You can share the links in your signature, that's fine, as long as you're not here just to spam us and make us visit your page -- which is clearly not your intention. At the top of your page you'll see a link to UserCP -- down the left hand side of the screen there are options including "change signature".
You'll find that studying poetry as an academic and using it as a "real person" are rather different -- it sometimes takes a while to reconcile the two, but understanding both perspectives will make you an infinitely better poet. We do have a good number of academics on board and we're very happy to push you to as high a level as you'd like to reach, if you're game.
