How to scan a poem
You don't have music to back you in poetry. Your words have to create the rhythm. That's what meter is.

This, in all modesty (not that I need to be modest, as I contribute very little to the critique forums),
is one of the best sites on the web to improve your poetry writing abilities.
And speaking of which, there is a fun little challenge going on at the moment that's really receptive to anybody
who's looking to try a little bit of poetry writing. Any level of poetry is just fine, in fact, some of the less experienced
writers on this site have been coming up with some of the best poems. It's kind of amazing what you can do when
you write get given a set topic so you don't suffer "blank page syndrome", when you get good support from the other
participants, and... have fun.
There is a link to what it's all about HERE. You're more
than welcome to join in, I'd love to have you. - Ray
P.S. I'm glad you are tolerant of other writers talking about themselves, because I love to go on and on. And as far
as the praise thing goes, I just love it. And, luckily, I post most of my writing on the Miscellaneous Forum, where it's
perfectly fine to fawningly praise me. (In the critique forums, it's preferred you not be too effusive, unless you back
it up with solid reasons for why.)
Looking forward to seeing you around,
Ray
