Lyric poetry

[Achebe]

I wrote my love a lyric
c'etait magnifique.
Some victories may be Pyrrhic:
she thought it to critique, 

so I gave her rump a pasting
metaphorically, of course
for pretentiously poetasting
on the pigpenpoetry bourse.*

Then she left me for a lesser
poet, a dingbat with pecs.
So I threw my poem in the pisser
and now write only lengthy reports in MS word on the global seaborne iron ore traded market, the impact of Chinese demand thereon.
Heck.

*It's not exactly a bourse, as there's no exchange of money but crits instead, but it's a neat rhyme
