This April I am counting
all the things I neglected last April
when I let spring and half of summer
slip away until nothing was worthwhile.
The boat is in the water
even though its carb is in the shop,
the tree guy who is willing to climb
the hundred footer whose dead limbs
hang over the house has been found.
I'm almost done with Mom's chores
that were I missed last year with my own.
Last April milo counted
the poems I didn't write.
This year I stopped counting.
But next week I will creep the shoreline
in the moonlight and write the one about peeping
with the crickets and frogs.
