If anyone knows anything about animating stuff...

i would highly recommend Adobe After Effects CS6. it is probably the best computer software ever created, with the exception of Logic Pro 9 [that is music software, though, so no need to worry about that].

anyway, so, get yourself Adobe After Effects and also Adobe Premier Pro CS6. these two programs basically do everything you want.

there are two problems: 1) they are both about £3000 each. so, if you were looking to buy them your probably going to be spending almost £6000 [i don't know what that is in australian]. and 2) you need a relatively good computer. premier is particularly draining on the system, for some reason. also, make sure you turn off the cache in After Effects, because it saves literally everything. i used it to make a film credit sequence, and each time i finished an element of something silly like 20 seconds, it was using 30 gigabytes of hard drive. i finished about 4 sections of 20 seconds each and it had eaten something like 200 gigabytes in total. luckily i have 2 terabytes, but had i not i think my computer would have died or exploded or something.
also, you really need to learn about codecs. or at least find a suitable compression for the export, because again, after effects exports pure lossless files as standard. this leads to epically large files, and you will even struggle playing them back.

anyway, all that is by the by, because you are probably thinking "£6000 [in australian]! are you a fucking idiot? i said cheap!". . . but the good news is, you can download them both for free from the pirate bay. woohoo!
of course, there is the ethical problem of 'oh, but piracy is theft. it's illegal. adobe will be upset' etc. but i tend to deal with this issue, on the few occasions it may have briefly entered the transom of my mind, by thinking to myself "i kinda, sorta, really don't care."

anyway. this is just a suggestion. and seriously, after effects is really enjoyable to use.

[and, just in case anyone from adobe is reading this, mine was only a suggestion, of course. i paid £6000 for em, all legit, like.]
