I woke a little crazier this morning, crazier than any day before.
Things made no sense to me and that was worryin’
‘cause wakin’ up is when things seemed so clear.
The blinds were makin’ hummin’ noises right inside my head
and the lamp-shade spun so fast it fanned the light.
I couldn’t sit up straight without reachin’ for the rope
that hung there swingin’ through the room above.
But there was no room above, least none I noticed;
so I couldn’t get a fix on what was up.
The windows ranged around me, ringed with shiny steel,
sideways lyin’ like they’d fallen down.
If I changed the way I looked, and thought them right way round,
that explained why doors just opened by themselves.
I watched a thousand seagulls fly in to the sun
that was shinin’ down through holes above my bed.
I felt a dizzy slippin’ in the thinkin’ of my thoughts,
kinda’ movin’ cross my brain like a turtle on warm toast;
it must have happened to you, so you get the way it felt.
The godamn birds were screamin’ like a thousand souls on fire
so I willed the sea to rise and drown us all.
I felt the water risin’, it was warm around my legs
but nothing seemed to change the way I felt.
The turtle kept on crunchin’, the toast smelled like it burned,
the seagulls screamed, the blinds were purrin’ loud.
I grabbed that rope and pulled her, a sun came crashin’ down,
so I threw myself aside; the whole world rocked and
I woke a little crazier this mornin’, but I’m alright now.
