A Rebuttal
and why not
end a life when it is time
rather than let it babble on
like a tiresome guest or a novel
that needs to tidy up every last detail
long after the story is over.
and why not
make the most important
decision for yourself
rather than let a speeding car
or crumbling veins
or a weak heart
make it for you.
who would argue
that a longer life
is somehow superior
to a shorter one.
it is the finality that scares you
like the period at the end
of a letter but before
the first cut.
