Seems a bit harsh for the dove just because he is having an offcoo day 
I try never to resort to violence toward animals...unless of course, I am eating them, and even them I prefer killing them gentle to keep the body from being flooded by uric acid, it makes the meat sour. Of course that is not a problem with long pork
